Painting Ceramic Tile

Replacement of ceramic tile is not a pocket-friendly task. A new and unique idea is painting ceramic tile by which you can give an entirely new look to your house. Decorative painting on ceramic tile will result in a stunning effect on your friends, family and neighbors.

However, you must know the do’s and don’ts of painting ceramic tile in order to get long-lasting results. You can paint any ceramic tile provided the tile does not have a contact to moisture on regular basis.

Before painting ceramic tile, you need to deep clean the ceramic tile and grout. Remember! All paints contain glues which only stick on squeaky clean or slightly rougher surfaces.

Painting ceramic tile with oil-based paint gives fantastic results as it really sticks to the surfaces after drying. Semi-gloss or high gloss paint would be a better choice for painting ceramic tile. Painting ceramic tile will be also done successfully by epoxy paints, but it would be better to test these in a small area before applying to the whole surfaces. Water-based paints are found to peel readily from glazed ceramic tile surfaces.

In order to protect the surfaces next to the ceramic tile, use masking tape while painting ceramic tile.

Decorative painting on ceramic tile is not a difficult task either. Unlimited decorative-design options are available for painting ceramic tile of any kind. You may generate your own designs and stencils as well. By using stencils over the finish paint, you may create borders on walls, floors or countertops. Also, by using two-tone paint designs, you may get astonishing results.

After painting ceramic tile, let the finish paint dry for two or three days. Then coat it with a couple of coats of clear water-based urethane which is very sticky and helps the fresh oil paint to adhere. It also resists water and scratches and thus enhances the life of the painted surfaces.
